On September 19, 2020, the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County launched their annual campaign for support.
At the Dementia Society, the vision is to ensure no one faces dementia alone—which is even more critical now, as COVID-19 further isolates people living with dementia and their care partners. Now more than ever, our community needs social connections and support. The Dementia Society is now offering numerous programs online, and with your support, we can do more.
When you participate in the BrainyActive Challenge, you send a message of hope to the 24,000 people in Ottawa and Renfrew County currently living with a diagnosis of dementia. This challenge engages people to connect with loved ones and community safely – both virtually and in-person – while respecting COVID measures.
In the past, this event has been the “Walk for Dementia”, and usually held in early May. This year’s campaign will be a virtual one, the “BrainyActive Challenge” , title sponsored by the Tony Graham Automotive Group, and Baker Tilly Chartered Accountants. My mother, grandmother, and my former boss Tony Graham, all were struck with this debilitating disease, and now, Jennifer’s mother is currently struggling with this.
My video of what I will be doing for the “BrainyActive Challenge” is attached as well. For those who are willing to take me up on this challenge, log onto the Dementia Society website and search for the BrainyActive Challenge under “ Ways to Give”….our group is called “With a Little Help From My Friends” in partnership with my sister, Lynda Colley.
Please donate or sponsor me in my challenge to walk 200 kms over the 21 days. (Doing the video above, it is clear that I need to walk …. Pictures and videos are not flattering!). The campaign runs from September 19 through Thanksgiving, October 12th
Thank - you
